Red Cross Class Schedule What follows is a description of the courses the American Red Cross of Greater New York asks all ARES members to complete. The schedule is complete through March 2004. All ARC/GNY Disaster Services volunteers must complete Volunteer Orientation. This course provides participants with an overview of the history of the American Red Cross, and its services and policies, with specific focus on the mission and values of the American Red Cross in Greater New York. Completion of this course is required before taking any Disaster Services courses. To register for Volunteer Orientation, please call 212-875-2067. Registration must be made two days prior to the class date. All Volunteer Orientation classes listed will be held at 150 Amsterdam Avenue. Classes will be cancelled if minimum registration is not achieved. Course participants will be notified of cancellations and rescheduling by the Volunteer Resources Department. - Your full name - please spell your last name - The best phone number at which to reach you or leave you messages regarding problems with registration or class cancellation. - The name, date and location of each class for which you wish to be registered. - Your affiliation (ARES) Please speak slowly and clearly when leaving your information on the Registration Line. All classes start promptly. Participants arriving more than 15 minutes late will not be admitted to the class. Attendance and participation during the entire class is a requirement for certification in that specific class. All pre-requisites for a specific course must be filled before attending a class. Canceling Registration for a Class Please call the Registration Line at (212) 875-2165 or (800) 442-5980, x2165 at least 48 hours in advance. If you must cancel your registration with fewer than 48 hours of notice, you must contact Katey Walsh at (212) 875-2474, (800) 442-5980 x 2474, or walshk@arcgny.org. Class Cancellations Disaster Services will notify students who are registered for a class that is cancelled via telephone at the earliest time possible. A canceled class will be announced on the Registration Line (212) 875-2165 or on (800) 442-5980, x2165 within 24 hours of the class start time. Introduction to Disaster Services ARC 3066 The purpose of this course is to provide basic information about disasters and their effects, to outline the role of agencies in disaster relief and to introduce participants to American Red Cross Disaster Services. The purpose of this training is to provide basic information about the activities of the Mass Care function. Participants will learn about the skill and abilities needed by Mass Care workers and discuss the importance of delivering quality service to clients. Mass feeding, sheltering and bulk distribution are the main topics of the course. This course is required of all ARES volunters. The purpose of this course is to prepare American Red Cross disaster workers to effectively and sensitively manage shelter operations as a team, and to meet the needs of people displaced as a result of a disaster. Shelter preparations, setup, operations and closure are the main topics of this course. This course is required of all ARES volunteers. Once an ARES member completes all the ARC classes, he/she will be issued a temporary Red Cross ID card, with a permanent card to follow in 6 months. You must inform your EC when you complete each course and when you obtain your ID card. |
